Mobile Devices and Learning through the Web

The aim of this workshop is to acknowledge the role of the Web in mobile learning and the fundamental infrastructure to achieve it, as well as establishing a pedagogic stance required for the design and development of learning support systems based on mobile devices.

Each one of the learning perspectives will be addressed according to the usage of mobile devices, its characteristics and further implications in the development of software for learning environments based on these devices.

Finally some developments around the globe using mobile devices for learning will be commented and analyzed.

About the Speaker

Dr. Gerardo Ayala obtained the Computers Engineer degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). The Center for the International Cooperation for Computerization (CICC) in Tokyo acknowledged him as a Software Engineer Instructor, and the Muroran Institute of Technology in Japan granted him the M.S. degree in Computer Science.

He also obtained the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science at the University of Tokushima, Japan, March 1996, in the area of information technologies for collaborative learning.

During his 21 years as a researcher he has published more than 40 papers in journals and proceedings of international conferences. Since 19998, he has been a recognized member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI). The research and development areas of his interest include the application of information technologies in long distance education, lifelong learning and learning communities based in processes that support the social construction of knowledge.
