Universidad de las Américas Puebla is located in the greater metropolitan area of Puebla, in the state of Puebla. Founded in the 16th century as a bridge between Mexico City and the port city of Veracruz, Puebla is one of the most important colonial cities in Mexico and its fourth largest city. The city of Puebla is home to many universities, and offers the commercial infrastructure and services of any world class city.
Specifically, UDLAP is situated in the ancient city of Cholula, rich in culture and tradition, and considered one of the most important archaeological sites in Mexico. Cholula has been continuously inhabited for almost 2500 years, making it the oldest settlement in Mexico.
By Car from Mexico City
Take Highway 150 from Mexico City towards Puebla. This is a toll road, and about 5 minutes after passing through the San Martin Texmelucan tollbooth, take the exit for the Periférico Ecológico. The Periférico exit is located right after the town on Xoxtla. Look for a sign indicating the Africam Safari exit. If you see the Volkswagen car factory on your left, you have gone too far! After about 5 minutes on the Periférico, take the second exit for Cholula. You will immediately find yourself on the Recta, also known as the Vía Quetzalcóatl, which is the highway connecting Puebla to Cholula. The UDLAP exit is clearly marked on the Recta.
The main bus station in the city of Puebla is called CAPU. This immense bus station is home to many bus lines that will connect the cities located in the southern, eastern, central and southwestern parts of Mexico. The Estrella Roja bus line, offering trips to and from the Mexico City international airport, has its own small station located on 4 Poniente Avenue. In both bus stations, be sure to look for the authorized taxis that will take you safely to your final destination.
Puebla has its own international airport called Hermanos Serdán. It is located in the town of Huejotzingo, 20 minutes by car from UDLAP. The airport is small, so check with your local travel agent to see if you can book a flight to Puebla.
Mexico City’s Benito Juarez International Airport provides non-stop services with over 30 major airlines to over 100 airports throughout the world. Located just two hours from Puebla, it is quite easy to fly into Mexico City and then jump on the Estrella Roja airport bus. There is a bus station in each airport terminal. Just follow the signs for local ground transportation to the Estrella Roja ticket office. You can take the bus to either the CAPU or 4 Poniente stations, but the 4 Poniente station is closer to UDLAP.
